Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are just one of the “tools in our shed”… but they are a real cornerstone for everything we do in Design, Construction, and Real Estate Development, above all when it comes to budget.
SIPs are a high performance building material – essentially a structural “sandwich” of wood skins bonded to high-density foam – that provide primary structure, insulation, and sheathing all in one step. They support our mission to bring Green Building to the market, because while up-front material cost is slightly higher they save money in terms of a significantly shorter construction schedule, less waste, and smaller heating/air systems.
Which means they save even more money over the long run. And they can be used to build anything 2x “stick” construction can do, so design is never compromised. We do our own projects, and work with many other clients including homeowners and other builders, mostly around the Southeast, although we’re currently working on an international disaster and poverty-relief home package.
In brief, we take blank SIPs panels at our plant near Charleston, SC and custom fabricate them – pre-cutting door and window openings and electrical and communications boxes, along with pre-installing the connecting splines – to arrive at a job site ready to go up very quickly. The links below provide a ton of information on SIPs, but the best way to learn more about the system is to call or email us or come in to our plant or come visit a job site… or, even better, do all three. It’s a great system.
